what's the best practice for fixing wire runs along a joist ? . I have a garage, where the wire runs along the insides of the joists. Some wire runs need to cross over others to reach their destinations. Is there a recommended minumum distance the wires should seperate?

Cable is best secured along the sides of joists if following the line of the joist. If you think about it, securing along the top or bottom of the joist would get in the way of floors/ceilings.

Cable runs are OK to cross over each other in the garage scenario you're asking about; it only needs further consideration if the number of cables present are significant enough to warrant the use of grouping factors, or if the location warrants the use of thermal factors when working out the size of cable to use.

Hope this makes sense!
