Looking to replace our boiler. One installer rates the Glow Worm CXi. Another a Baxi Duo Tec. Help please!

really informative post!!
it may help by telling us what you already have and what is connected to it rads, cylinder etc.

My current boiler is a Ariston Eurocombi, 3 bed semi and the reason for the upgrade is because we are having an extension built. This will include 2 further bedrooms and a utility room. Thanks.

I'm assuming you mean a Glowworm Ultracom CXi. Both this and the Baxi are decent boilers so I'd suggest you make your decision on the installer not the boiler.

personally would go for the baxi out of those two (based on previous bad experiences with HXi and CXi boilers)

go for at least 100,000BTU / 29KW for decent hot water as the 80,000/24kw boilers struggle to heat water properly.

best to allow 5,000btu / 1.5kw per radiator in your finished house to size the boiler for rads

so go with the higher demand for boiler size

Are Vaillant and Worcester Bosch worth the extra money? They seem to be priced at about £200 to £300 more than other makes.

imo no. The Ultracom was developed by Vaillant anyway and its just as reliable. WB always starts a debate, its the marmite boiler.
Personally I fit mostly Ultracoms and not had a single failure, also used to work for them and hardly ever went out to a faulty one, hence why I fit them now. Some of the older Glowworms weren't so good but the Ultracoms are in a different league. I know people who install the Baxis though and they speak very highly of them so as I say I would just choose the guy you felt best about. The quality of the installation is just as important as the boiler thats installed at the end of the day.

Just to confirm with the extension you are not having another shower or bathroom built or fitted?

This is a very important factor when choosing a heating and hot water system,as you can appreciate both the boilers which have been recommended will only supply one bath at a time

Thanks for all the great replys so far.
We are looking at having an additional shower to the one we've got at the moment. Thanks.

The best boiler??? ask yourself O.P , when was the last time u went around one of your freind's house's & they said to u come & look at my boiler ??? they have'nt have they , have u ever said to a guest or visitor to your home , come & look at my boiler ?? No u have'nt have u !
would u like to ??? would u like to be different ?? would u like to install a boiler that would be the envy & talk of your street ?? a styling Ikon ?? a collector's piece in years to come !! it's very name can so I am told have the same effect as Viagra , from the land that produced Ferrari ,Masserati , Alpha Romeo , M.V Augusta , Ducati , Bennali , Bugatti , o.k there were a few turkey's lambretta ? Lancia ? , but that is not the point , dare to be different install a Lamborgini boiler , interested of course u are !!!

I dont fit Glowworm as their aittude is crap, dont rate the boilers either, all have pro's and cons, go for one with the biggest warranty, dont see any point in buying a boiler with 12 months or 24 months warranty when there are quite a few with 5 years cover, Baxi Platimun, Ideal Logic plus, Ariston Anus or whatever they call it, Vailliant ego something plus or other,
take your pick, have fun, all boilers are crap, just some more than others.
