I am really sorry for what is probably a really stupid question to most of you out there, im not exactly great at DIY but am trying to fix a shelf which i leaned on and it fell down and the plugs came out with it.

The problem im having it it seems to have made the holes a little bigger plus it seems like its only plastboard or something similar, it only seems about 3/4 inch - 1 inch thick.

the location is the bathroom wall.

i had a selection of wall plugs but the screws just kept turning and wouldn't grip, im assuming thats obviously because of the lack of wall with it being fairly thin, i only really noticed the thickness of the wall after this happened.

i used a plug which was an 8mm plug and fitted in nicely, as i say the only issue is the screw / plug just kept turning once tightened.

so what plug can i use which would work the best, rather than opening near the end of the plug i guess i need one that opens and grips near the start of the plug.

is this a common issue with these types of walls?

thanks for any help and sorry if its a basic issue that i should know lol

thanks

james
