When replacing the bearings on a whirlpool AWM1404/4 Do you also need to replace the tub seal? is it also a good idea to use Universal Bearing Seal Sealant Grease on the shaft?

Depends on which tub seal you mean.

Yes replace the bearing seal as well as that it the part that goes allowing water into the bearings causing them to rust which gets worn off and creates and abrasive powder which increases the damage to the bearings. Snowball effect.

Its the most common reason for bearing failure.

I use bearing fit on the drum support shaft.

If you mean the door seal then if it is in good condition (not holed, wear marks thinning the rubber, signs of chemical reaction) then no you don't need to replace it. Just give it a good clean especially in all the nooks and crannies. Watered down washing up liquid smeared on the part that fits over the lip on the drum helps it to go on easily.

If you mean the seal between the two parts of the drum then it depends on condition as well. Generally I use Fernox LX lightly smeared on the seal if its in good condition to ensure a good seal.
