Whirlpool dishwasher won't drain water

My Whirlpool recent model dishwasher will not empty the water after a run. I removed the drain hose from the pump housing and can see inside that a small plastic impeller type item has come loose and is knocking around. Is this something I can fix myself or need factory repair?
