Whirlpool Integrated Dishwasher alarm sounds flashes 4 times

Hi, my mum has just moved to a new house and has inherited an integrated dishwasher. We believe the model is whirlpool and is very similar to the ADG 7460 that is currently on their website. The problem appears to be that everytime she tries to run a cycle she shuts the door having set the cycle and pressed the start button the alarm sounds. When she opens the door the start button flashes 4 times then pauses for a second and flashes again. I have tried resetting the program and unplugging the machine but same thing happens. Although on some occasions she gets lucky and it actually works, but the majority of the time she gets the same fault. I would appreciate any help or ideas as to what the fault could be. When you open the door it has programme 2000 written on the door but no model number...
