Whirlpool lower spray arm

The lower spray arm on my Whirlpool dishwasher is hitting the pipes at the bottom rear of the machine, dislodging them behind the spray filter.

I think this is happening because there is too much play in the spray arm. Does this sound right, or at least possible? Or might the problem be with the pipes?

You need to replace the plastic part behind the mesh filter that the pipes plug into.
