whirlpool washing machine not spining

Hello, i have an old whirlpool washing machine AWM882. It started not washing if you catch my drift. Ran it yesterday, filled with water and started agitating. At this point i moved the controller forward to the spin cycle. The drum started to turn as it does on spin, slowly to empty the bulk of the water first. It then just got slower and slower and slower until it stopped. When i tried to run the cycle again it wont even turn. Brushes are ok they have 20 to 30 mm on them. Connection to motor is ok. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
