I have been growing potatoes for several years in plastic barrels, every year we have had a good, healthy crop. This year I noticed a lot of wire worms on the surface of the compost. The potatoes have good healthy shoots and I need to earth them up but am very concerned about the wire worms.
How can I get rid of these wire worms? I'd like an organic method if possible but am open to all ideas. I'd also like to know how to prevent any further infestations in future years.

As far as i'm aware there is no control available once the crop has been planted. My advice would be to carefully lift the tubers(if possible) and replant them in new compost. discard the old compost/soil to the dump or somewhere where no suceptable crops are grown
