Having removed the old ceiling rose with three x live, neutral and earth I have connected up the new wiring to the ceiling light/fan and lo and behold it doesn't work :!: . I suspect that the problem lies with the "black" return feed to the wall switch but don't now know which one this is.

Does anyone know of a surefire way of finding out which wire it is with a tester, without me blowing myself up :?: Incidentally all of the other lights on the floor operate so that the live etc. feed to them on the ring main has not been interrupted.

Hope someone can help

depends what type of "tester" you have the ideal one would be a meter what do you have?

I do not think it is just the blacks that are wrong, but it depends what you have done with them, most people connect them up switch on and bang.

how have you connnected your fan /light

call them cable 1, 2, & 3 to make life easier, and the light/ fan does it have brown and blue also green/ yellow?
