Hi I wish to fit a light in my porch, I want to use the single light switch in the hall which is single gang by replacing it with a two gang switch, the current wiring is a red and blue at the switch. This switch currently only works one light.

Can you please advise on wiring requirements.

Thanks in advance.

Unless there is a neutral present at the switch, it can't be done.

If there are only two wires connected to the switch, they will be a live and a switched live.

Generally there is no need for a neutral at a switch.

Some lights are wired 'loop at switch', in which case a neutral may be looped through a seperate connector in the back box.

Your need to run a TE cable from the ceiling rose nearest the new light position and a switch wire from the light to the existing switch area.

Then you have to replace the 1 x switch with a double.

If your OK with the hall and new lamp working in tandem off the same switch then just run a cable between the hall light ceiling rose and the new light.

See Wiki- Electrics UK- Lighting for diagrams

red and blue?

are these two wires within the same cable?

any wires connected in a separate connector block?

or any spare wires/cut off wires?
