Hi Everyone.

I have a quick question about the wiring for my heating system. Please see the picture of my wiring center. I have located most of the cables as to what they do. But there is a Black cable in with the Room Stat Switched which I think should be in Neutral. Its paired from the Boiler live Switched and I dont understand why it is not in Neutral? Am I missing somethig? Everything seems to be working fine though. I would appriciate any help I can get for this. Thanks.

Also unlike most S-Plan Diagrams, the live feed from the 3A Spur goes to my programmer first rather then the wiring center and then a Live feed from the programmer to the wiring center. is this unusual Thanks.

The black from the stat might be the Switched Live coming from the stat, if it was connected to Neutral then, when the stat called for heat, there would be a dead short from Live ( the switched Live ) to Neutral

...@ least use a black marker as I can't see fook all in red...jeez

If it all works fine as you say then why do you want to fiddle with it?

Do you take your car to pieces for fun as well?

Or you have too much time and money on your hands?

Not unusual. As long as everything works ok you have nothing to worry about.

God man!! whats is with the hostility!! Firstly thank you so much of those trying to help. I am looking to install the Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen and looked at all the posts to work everything out (all the connections). All i could not understand is why that black is in there as everywhere I looked suggested that it should be in neutral. I thought I will keep it minimal and ask all I need to know and not write a dissertation on what i am going to do.

The Black is not from the room stat as can bee seen from the picture of the room stat wiring. It is part of the 3 cables that are boiler switched which is why I thought it should be in neutral. I thought someone here might know if it is there for a reason as I could not find its purpose. I have relabeled the original picture so its more readable. (Tried it with black marker and I could not see a thing). Hope someone can help. Thanks again.

The yellow is the Switched live from the Stat and it is where it should be. The black in question is not from the room stat but the neutral from the boiler switched live. This is the only thing I cannot work out. Thank you for your help.

What is it connected to at the other end ??

Your question basically solved the problem so thank you so much. The Black cable is connected to a spare terminal block tucked at the back of the programmer plate, so its not used as a neutral or anything else. This suggests that the earth and neutral from the Boiler live switched can be isolated and rewired to supply the 12v needed between Heatlink and Nest Thermostat. Im pretty sure i am correct lol. Please advice if wrong. Thanks (y)
