Hello all.

I have a timed extractor fan, which was originally fed from twin and earth, using black and red for continuous power, and the copper (earth) wire, sleeved, as the switched power to start the fan.

Red-------------------Fan Live Feed
Sleeved Copper-----Fan Switched Live Feed
Black-----------------Fan Neutral Feed

I want to replace the twin and earth, with "proper" Triple and earth. BUT, the Triple and earth is using the harmonised colours. So what colours would you suggest I use? Looking at the colour schemes makes me head hurt.

??----------Grey-----------------Fan ??
Earth------Copper---Earth (not used)
??----------Black----------------Fan ??
??----------Brown---------------Fan ??

I would suggest :-

Brown in place of red (Live)
Black Neutral (Neutral)
Bare copper,sleeve with green/yellow earth sleeve (Earth)
Grey (Switched live).

Hi,

You need 1.0mm2 or 1.5mm2 3core pvc/pvc cable.

Fan Side:

Brown = Penminant Live
Black = Neutral
Grey = Switched Live (L1)

Earth = Earth.... i hope...

Not quite sure where your feed comes from... From the switch or pendant...?

Ceiling Rose:

Brown = Loop
Black = Neutral
Grey = SW (switch line)
Earth = Earth Block

Switch:

Brown = COM
Black = Chock Block with other Neutrals...
Grey = L1
Earth = Earth Block

Hope this helps,

carlos

Thanks. I will use your suggestions. Much appreciated. I know it's a minefield, and takes a concerted effort to overcome many years of embeded colour coded awareness to get it right (first time :) without popping fuses or tripping breakers, let alone the smell of singed hair in the morning.

All the regulatory bodies are recommending using the grey(sleeved blue) as Neutral, and the black(sleeved brown) as Switched Live.

This makes sense, as RED YELLOW BLUE runs in the same sequence as BROWN BLACK GREY, and BLACK is no longer a neutral colour, and is best not to be used as such.

Doesn't matter which way you go, both will obviously work. It's personal preference, but my way is better :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

Strange you should say that, because that is what I did the first time, having refered to ...
http://www.lenton.aiew.co.uk/orph.htm?http://www.lenton.aiew.co.uk/wiring.htm

^^^ all on one line by the way, not split as shown above.

Looking at the pictures existing and new for Triple Flat.

I think I will go with the way I did it first time, and sleeve accordingly.
Unless there are major no-no's.

Nothing like being flexible in decision making is there :)
