hi all...i am currently wiring up a new light above the shower...i have bought from from b and q...on the packing it says that it needs to be connected to a 30mA rcd..i thought it would be ok to connect up on the existing wiring which is on a 6A lighting circuit...is this in the regs or would i need to run a new circuit to the bathroom...

If it is a 230V fitting, and installed in zone 1 then it must be RCD protected.

thanks for quick reply...it is 240v....but if i change it for a low voltage...will i still need to have a new circuit....

zone 1 is 2.25 mt and less. so if your ceiling height greater than this no RCD required

btw no need for a new circuit to get RCD protection, just use a RCD FCU up in the loft (its not likely to trip very often so as long as you can get to it without too much trouble it shouldn't be a problem).

SELV (separated extra low voltage) lights do not require RCD protection.

thanks guys...didnt realise i could get rcd fcu....think i'll just put in SELV downlights instead.....thanks again.....
