Hi you probably get loads of these but here goes.
Our 1930s semi has floorboards which are showing signs of age. Hollows and splits etc., some of which are quite large. We've also had a loft conversion done so the doors are all now close fitting fire safety doors.

My wife wants wood flooring through the hall, lounge and dining room.
What's the recommended product and installation for this type of arrangement.

She's leaning to solid oak but I think engineered may be better with the muddy kids, pets etc. I'm just a bit worried that putting ply down, then the boards, will raise the level too much for the fire doors.

Thanks for any help.

You could uplift the existing floorboards and replace with either solid or engineered boards that are load bearing ie. at least 18mm.

You need to check for air flow as well to prevent any possible problems.
