I wanted to put a neutral colour on the part of the wall that is darkly coloured, so that when I come to paint all the walls red, it will come out the same shade on all walls. I picked up the cheapest neutral colour paint I could find and paint an entire wall (although it is a small wall) with it. Stupid me bought paint for wood and metal. It came out very glossy and was wondering if I am okay to paint over this with the red. Will it stick okay? Will the red come out glossy too despite it being matte?

You cant paint emulsion over gloss very successfully, it will skid around and probably craze when it dries. Best thing to do is the flat it off ,
( sand it ) to abrade it and give it a bit of a key, and apply an oil based undercoat to match the other walls. Then emulsion paint all the walls to the colour you want
