this week when we switch off the heating the rads have been staying hot, we tried switching off the hot water too but this didnt work, the thing is the boiler is not firing up as it normally does when we use hot water or the heating, it is as though it is residue hot water, but in the end after 7 hrs we had to switch off the boiler itself, any ideas. Forgot to say it is an outside boiler in a green metal case 2yrs old. also the pressure is on .50 ie half way between 0 and 1. but the pressure is ok for the water etc. and all is working fine with the heating when its switched on, the problem is when we put the heat off the rads stay very hot.

There could be a couple of issues with your Heatslave here.....first, if you can get heating but no hot water - or vice versa - then the diverter valve above the water circulating pump isn't working the way it should.
The heatslave set up actually stores a volume of hot water in a tank above the burner so this is what you are drawing on.
When you turn a hot tap on, you should hear the click of a flow switch that instructs the burner to start up.
Internal thermostats within the boiler itself should close the burner down when the heatslave temperature is satisfied.

thanx John, we get all the usual service ie hot water, the problem is when we put the switch for the heating to off the actual boiler stops firing but the rads retain the heat, to try to solve it we tried switching the switch for the hot water to off so in effect both switches are off but still the rads are hot without the usual steam noise etc from the boiler, almost as if the hot water is overflowing into the rads, obviously not as after about 6hrs of very hot rads we had to switch the main switch to shut off the boiler as we couldnt sleep with the heat, very strange. we now have just the hot water switched on, to start with one rad got hot but has now cooled down, dreading switching the actual heating on now! forgot to say it is an outside boiler in a green case, the pressure reads .50 ot between 0 and 1, all is ok when we have the heating switched on, the problem is the rads remaining very hot when all is switched off.

Eureka you have found the answer to free heat.

I suggest getting scientists around to study the boiler as a boiler
that can produce heat when not working is the holy grail.

I think the diverter valve is sticking open and the pump is
dragging the heat out of the hot water tank and into the central heating.

Hi Guys
