Hi

We recently purchased an old property, 1930's bungalow, and it has had a new boiler fitted about 4 yrs ago. It is the WB 30Si .

I am having an issue with the boiler that when the hot water is on, lets say in the kitchen, then the bathroom hot water will drop pressure considerably.

I have rang the chap who installed the boiler 4 yrs ago, and explained to him I am not looking to put blame on anyone, but I like to find out what the issue is to try and rectify the problem since I am refurbishing the house and moving the bathroom to a different location. So if it is piping issue, then I like to know what it is so that when it is replumbed, I don't have the same issue.

However the chap wasn't really interested and his response was that the combi boilers are not designed to be used with 2 taps running at the same time. The only option is to replace the boiler with one with an external tank ( combi with a separate pressure tank for hot water).

Is this the case?

The bungalow at the moment is a 2 bed bungalow, but in 18 months time we are converting by adding a full level above. Will the boiler be big enough to supply hot water to that size property? It will be basically a 4 bed house instead of a 2 bed bungalow.

Any help appreciated.

find your stopcock(s) and make sure it(they) are fully open. Look at the incoming water supply pipe, it might be 15mm copper, or something else. What? Lead pipes can get squashed.

If you are having another bathroom, you may need to upgrade the supply pipe out to the pavement to improve flow.

If you want to fill a bath in a reasonably short time, a hot water cylinder may be more suitable.

Thank you both.

What is the option of the combi with external tank to have more than 1 tap open at the same time? Like shower and something else.

What does an external expansion vessel do? Can I add one for the extra hot water ?

An external expansion vessel has nothing whatsoever to do with hot water delivery , if I was you I would look at an unvented hot water cylinder for your extension and keep the existing combi boiler to heat it and the rest of the house , an experienced heating engineer will advise you best

I'm hoping he'll be able to tell me where to purchase these "long body pumps" which eliminate the need for make up pieces or pipe alterations (grundfos pump thread)...
