Hi All,

Call an indivdual work to the 17th edition when they have not passed the latest exam, is their a grace period for example (16th passed including ammendments).

Whats the take on it?

There is no requirement to take any exam to work to any version of the wiring regs. In fact there is no legal requirement to hold any qualification at all to do any electrical work. A qualification does not competence (or experience) bestow.

Of course, Part-P Competent Persons Scheme providers are at liberty to define their own rules about what qualifications they require but I doubt any of them will stop you working [to 17th] if you hold 2381 but have not yet passed 2382. That would not be in their interest.

They may, however, give you a time limit within which you have to gain it in order to continue your membership of said scheme. You'll need to check that with your chosen scheme provider.

the 17th addition exam is not hard at all,

you are liable for your actions if you do any electrical work, weather civil or criminal prosicution being qualified is not a safety net!!!

And as it was said earlier there is no requirement to have qualifications!
but you might have a court awarding someone your house in damages when you burn theres down.......public liability insurance might / will wash there hands of you if your not qualified.

same as gas plumping anyone can do it but the corgi boys all say its a closed shop. only needs a corgi man to certify it!
