Is it possible to cut both the female and male worktop cuts on the same side face up, without doing the male cut on the underside, i only ask because i am sure i seen it done on a building show .

I wouldn't have thought so. The way the router cuts into the worktop means , you have to cut one face down so the router is cutting into the front of the worktop. If for whatever reason the router is cutting out of the front of the worktop, it will break out rather than leave a clean cut.

you must cut the joint starting at the front edge and have the router bit turning into the worktop or it will chip out
