yale alarm door contact

hi, can anyone tell me if it is ok to use a standard door contact from b&q as my yale one is bust.a new yale one is 18 pouunds and b&q is 8 pounds .do i have to have the same make as the alarm

No you can only use the Yale unless it is only the magnet you are replacing in which case any magnet will suffice..
 
If it is a wireless system then only the manufacture's equipment can be used.

If it is a wired system then almost any magnetically operated contact can be used as the panel is only looking for a closed contact when the door is shut. There may be resistors with the contact but these can be "fitted" into a replacement switch ( sensor ) body.
