I'm just painting some varnished mahogany veneered doors white as they have a few dings in them + I want to lighten up the rooms. Have taken the varnish off with combination of scraper and sanding and using an acrylic primer for an acrylic eggshell finish.
However, there are some patches where yellow is leaching through the two coats of primer. Have stripped the paint back off and given it a really good sand in the affected areas to make sure there could be no trace of any varnish, but the yellow still comes through. There is no obvious stain to the wood.
Any ideas on problem and best solution? I'm thinking shellac based stain blocker paint might be the next step but not sure how well the acrylic paint will go on top.
Thanks.
