I have a Zanussi washer-drier WDT 1085

It has recently started making a loud knocking
sound during its spin cycle (as though it has
a load of rocks in).

If I put it on spin without anything in then
there is a slight rumble, but it's not
really noticeable.

What's likely to be wrong?

give the drum a spin by hand is it still noisey?

also see if the drum will "wobble" (grab a hold of it and see if it will lift up and down)

chances are your answers will be yes.

Its your bearings gone. I used to work for h******t and if i came across this (quite often) if they had no insurance m/c is write off as it costs too much to fix (changed all outer tub & bearings) how ever if you hve thime and tools bearings on own are cheap.

Its not an easy job to do, i had special "bearing puller" to get bearings in / out

as for why they went, thats easy, m/c overloaded, causes drum to spin slightly off centre causing wear on bearing seal, water gets in and rusts bearings.

Yes, there is some noise and wobble when moved by hand.

I had a nasty feeling it might be something like this, and I
don't think its a job I can attempt myself :(

I have never (well, hardly ever) overloaded the m/c but it is
eight years old so I suppose its not done too badly.

Thanks very much for your help, breezer.
