zone valve help

I am trying to set up an automatic watering system. What I think will do the job is a zone valve, connected to a timmer.

Problem i see is that im coming from the mains, so how do i reduce the power, and second is all the extra wires, I simply want to electronically turn the flow of water on or off, (manually or by a timer), perhaps someone knows somthing easier than a zone control valve...

Mains -> standard plug -> timer ->zone valve.

solenoid operated valve would be more use to you

you can get 12 v versions as well

Yet a water solenoid is the answer and not that expensive.
