Golf 2001 - Exhaust emissions warning lamp

Hi,

I bought a 2001 golf 16v 1.6 2 weeks ago.
Its been working perfectly until today. I had a long drive last night without a fault.

Today I started it and the "Exhaust emissions warning lamp" started blinking very shortly after I pulled off.
There is very little power when I push the accelerator.
Also, the exhaust is now quite noisy.

Could this have any relation to it being 2 degrees outside?

Where do I stand with the dealer? He has signed me up to the 'coverdrive dealer guarantee - level 1'

i reckon your exhaust has split, probably somewhere near the frontpipe
