This is a friend's car and he has taken it to some "experts" and still none have identified the fault.

It idles at about 1000 rpm and slowly falls to 750 and then quickly recovers to 1000.

But its not just at idle speeds. It also sometimes does it when driving at lower speeds, say 30-40 .

To make it worse its intermittent!

He has had the motor throttle unit changed which was a very expensive wrong diagnosis!

Inlet manifold and associated components (IAC, idle air control valve) needs cleaning and inspection for a possible vacuum leak (sucking in air). Vacuum supply to the brake servo also might be a cause.

Pressure gauge on fuel line (petrol) to establish if the pressure is staying constant, which it probably is, but just to rule that out.

What engine the T5?

Any fault codes?
