Quite a common fault on these, never found out what causes it.
but is one of many faults these cars suffer for some reason.

I have heard of this problem with golfs. So hopefully its some help for you!

There is a brain/ecu which controls your comfort pack (windows, interior lights ect) It has got damp and does random things due to this.

On a golf its in the passanger footwell. The easy way to find out is lift the carpet and see if its damp underneath. Hopefully somebody will know if yours is also in the passanger footwell.

CCM - Central Convenience Module, Even if this has not got damp it could still be faulty causing the window`s to drop alittle.

Maybe get it to a VW specialist who should be able to bung it on a diag machine and scan the CCM for faults, that would be a good place to start.

I sat on my keys the other night. opening the wiondows in my skoda octavia.

and guess what.

It ****ed down all night.

I still get a wet arse about 4 days aga now haha.

but now reading this is this a VW related only or VAG related as I thought is strange that it could happen by sitting on the keys.

the ccm was under the passenger side carpet in my passat, it does get damp under the carpet and you will never know as the insulation is a couple of inches thick and like a sponge

i am suspecting that when i had the car valited a few weeks ago may have comtributed to the problem, as you all say it is down to damp i will look at it when the rain has stopped thanks again everybody
