Ventilation tile

Hi there,

I need to get ventilation tiles for more ventilation in my loft. I'm also considering an extractor fan in the bathroom that will vent out the roof. Could someone point me in the right direction after looking at the photo below? (you should be able to click on it to enlarge it, ignore the writing / arrow on it)

It's a 1960s ex council house.

I'd get a professional to do it, but trying to work out the potential costs.

Your roof has a mix of Redland Delta and Stonewolds tiles often done in the 60s and a right pain to lay.

The Delta tiles have the raised ridge in the middle and the Stonewolds are the flat ones.

Delta tiles are no longer manufactured but Stonewolds are available and vent tiles can be bought from Roofing Merchants

You need to ask for Redland Stonewold Mk 2 vent tiles (and flexi pipes)

Asphaltic are a national roofing merchant who will be able to supply them

Thanks for that, you certainly sound like you know what you're talking about!

I'm thinking that I might just vent the bathroom out of one of these and see if that helps with the problem. If I do have to add more ventilation do you have any idea how many I'd need to have (I'm getting condensation on the felt) ? I seem to have plenty of low level ventilation but very little at the top although I do have an end wall that I could add an air brick to.

I think the vent tiles have 10,000 mm2 free area so to comply with current recommendations you would need them at 2 metre centres each side of the ridge.

This is probably overkill so if I was you I would put 2 or 3 each side and see if that gets rid of the condensation.

They are pretty easy to install

Hope to get on top of this condensation issue, it's a right pain...

Does it seem weird to anyone that I have low level ventilation but none higher up? Reading around it sounds like this is the issue.
