I'm guessing that the green, yellow and blue pins (continued in the flex) are meant to represent the three activities at the bottom of the picture.

That's them new safety plugs with the pins sleeved in coloured conductive rubber.

I thought it was to do with the monstrous amount of windmills that are appearing on and off the coast as well

I hadn't reaslised that Cumbria had a coastline, or electricity. Blimey!
Isn't the socket supposed to be switched off before plugging/unplugging?
