BG install...

Went round to see a mate today who has just had a boiler installed by a company that British Gas subbed out to. The job has been inspected by a BG guy after the subbies finished and as far as they are concerned its good.

1. The flue slopes outwards and ****es water, they obviously detected this as they have cut a piece of 15mm pip in half and wedged it in between the bottom of the flue and the hole they cut in the wall to try and prop the outside up. Whats the correct method they should use to adjust the angle?

2. Gas pipe follows a wiggly route on the outside wall. Out the bottom of the meter box, right, up, left above the meter box for about a meter then up the wall a bit further. This looks fugly and whats worse is none of the pipes are vertical or horizontal! They all have a slight lean to them.

3. Condensate pipe work is fugly, could have been done a lot neater.

He's not too pleased but BG don't seem interested. Whats the next plan of action he should take?

1) As hole for flue is always cut slightly bigger than flue then wedging something under it is probably the best way to support it pointing upwards a little.

The rubber decorative sealing ring around the flue will cover it all up.

2) & 3) Only you can say if you think it looks messy, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you may have just got a 'sloppy joe' as your installer.

It obviously meets current regs otherwise it wouldn't have been passed.

Nickso or one of the othe BG guys on here are better placed to advise you

complain like a motherfucker on heat. if you are not satisfied keep on at them.

the inspection from the BG bloke is no more than a formality. if you dont complain about anything on his visit he is unlikely to make work for himself.

the flue should be ok as long as its dressed and weatherproof. the gas pipe sounds like a half arsed job and i wouldnt have it myself.

why don't BG just pay a fair price and supply ALL the materials needed to their subbies? granted it wouldn't stamp all of this out but it would help a lot.

what they should actually do is get rid of subs altogether.

I thought that they did in around about sort of way by having strict ordering and use of materials rules.

Even if they did sa you say it wouldn't stop a bodger making a bad job of it.
