We have an old slate roof with slates set in cement at the verge. Is it possible to fit a dry verge or cap system? The house is right on the sea front so gets the full force of the weather.

Yes a Dry Verge can be fitted they are fitted by Secure mechanical fixing avoids wind uplift problems Completely weatherproof and maintenance free i am a member of www.trustedtradesmenltd.co.uk and do lots of jobs fitting dry verge systems. This is how to fit them.

To allow ventillation, underlay is left 30mm short of apex on each side. Before top tiling battens are fixed, a ridge tree batten is secured in position by a Ridge Batten Strap nailed to each rafter. If the Klober Uni-Dry Verge system is being used, the ridge batten must overhang the gable wall by 35mm to allow the Ridge End Cap to be fixed. If using a Block End Ridge, no overhang is required. Roof tiles are
laid in the normal manner. The Ridge Combs are placed over the ridge tree batten and nailed along the entire length of the ridge. Ridge tiles are positioned, connected by Ridge to Ridge Seals, then secured by hammering the special drive screw through the metal clamping plate and the Ridge to Ridge Seal into the ridge tree
batten. Ridge ends are finished with either a Uni-Dry Verge system, mortar or a block end ridge tile. Full fixing instructions are included in the Uni-Dry Ventilating Ridge pack.[/quote][/b][wiki][/wiki]

as said above. the system is unlikely to work if the ridge tiles are the old staff'y blue type.
