I've recently had some work carried out by a local reputable building contractor. Whilst they were on site they broke several items including some ornaments in the lounge (they weren't working in the lounge but had to walk through there for access) and our toilet seat (despite the fact we covered the toilet each day with some cardboard and a dust sheet, they removed it to use it and left it uncovered and it got broken).
Would it be reasonable to deduct the cost of replacing these from their final bill or should we just accept that accidents happen and either stand the cost ourselves or claim on our insurance?
Not really sure where we stand on this one? Any advice would be greatfully received.
