Hotpoint Aquarius WMA 32

Machine stopping half way through programmes, fizzing noise a few times leading up to this, pump ok as will get rid when set on last setting, most lights remain on when it freezes, suspect brushes.
could someone confirm this as i have taken rear cover off to expose motor but looks a pig to get at the brushes, if it is something else would pref not to have to un-bolt the motor etc unless necc. any advice greatfully received
