Removing surface scratches from stainless steel

Does anyone know how to do this?I have tried t cut,various scratch removal systems in liquid form and nothing seems to help.

The scratches are on highly polished car sill covers and have been caused by grit ect on shoes when getting in or out,mostly by the last owner Any help appreciated,thanks Jan.

Think about it..you cant remove a scratch unless you remove the material to below the level of the scratch. You can hide it by making more scratches. Thats about all you can do

agree with above, seen on "how its made", a fire truck (american) they use a "flat disc" to make circular marks on the stainless steel in the "cupboads" it relies on the fact the stainless steel is scratched by the disc to make "swirls on the stainless steel, this way the swirls hide any other scratches

It depends how 'highly polished' they are. Im assuming a mirror polish.
In which case you will need to use a felt wheel in a powertool with some polishing compound. That will get out light scratches.
But for deep ones, you may need a surface conditioning pad first, then the felt wheel torepolish it back to mirror. You will probably need to go over the entire cover lightly to get an even level of polish.



If its satin polish, a scotchbrite pad with some tcut will help remove light marks.

And for grained, a diamond block (garryflex) will regrain the area.
