Hi,

I'm in the middle of making some changes to the pipework in our bathroom and have hit on a problem I wasn't expecting.

Our bath is fed my a 16mm cold water supply and what I thought was a 22mm hot water supply.

I went to B&Q this morning any purchased two isolator valves and a roll of PTFE tape. I removed our old bath and shortened the pipes with a cutter, then installed the isolator on the cold water pipe. So far, so good. Now, I went to install the isolator on the supposedly 22mm pipe but it's not a very good fit. I also purchased some new 22mm pipe and when I put the isolator on that it's snug. To the eye the pipes are exactly the same size and even look the same when held together, but when you measure them carefully the old pipe looks to be 21mm in external diamater.

My question is this. Am I okay to use the isolator or do I have some kind of imperial pipe that looks like 22mm and need something different? The house is 1950s, so there was a lot of imperial pipework in it, but that's mostly been replaced with new CH systems etc over the years.

Any help appreciated!

IF the olives in your isolators are made of copper then they should tighten onto your old 3/4" pipe ok..If they are brass they probably won`t and you will have to get a 3/4" olive instead of the 22mm
