What do you mean by circuit breaker, is there any writing on it? Does it have a test button? Have you unplugged everything?

All plug sockets are unplugged and switched off. As soon as reset RCD and power switched back on it trips out again. Only affects the plug sockets not the light switches.

Try switching off everything else on that circuit - freezer? fridge? washing machine? dishwasher?

everything is switched off and unplugged and its still not working. We have checked behind each socket and everything looks okay. Everything was working prior to a thunder and lightening storm last sunday.

Well why didn't you say that to start with?

I think you are going to need the services of an electrician with his test equipment.

It maybe that a strike has goosed the RCD, but then again, the RCD may be ok and the wiring melted, or a combination of the two.

The only way to find out for sure it to carry out a series of tests.

Thank you

We have tried getting an electrition but they have not got the time we will keep on trying

Thanks again

what about something connected by an FCU? such as alarm, tubular heating, central heating programmer, immersion heater?

How about a TV aerial booster up in the loft and fed from an FCU. :?: :?: :?: Aerials are good at attracting lightning and a high voltage spike might have fried the electronics in the amplifier.   (It doesn't take a direct hit to do this.) Do you have a broadband modem? Phone lines also attract lightning.
