Hi
Can anyone help me i have a Ford escort 2000 x reg van and in wet weather i may as well leave it at home. I can start it up and run it then sudenly it will start to loose power and the cut out even if im moving. when i try to start it again the battery light flashes. i have had a new battery and altinator not long ago. I think it could be something to do with water shrting wires out somewhere. has anyone herd or know what this could be?

Hi Matty,

Does this happen in dry conditions ? If not, check the water drainage paths for obstructions etc.

Does it happen just after you have used the screen wash ? If so, check for a leak from the wash bottle to the jets.

;)

Hi
no it does not do it in dry conditions i owned another escort van (p reg) and it did the same thing, it must be quite common for two vans ive owned to have the same problem, ill check it over and see but i checked the p reg van over when i had that one and had no joy.
regards matt

Bit strange for a diesel

I'd be looking at the fusebox, make sure there is no water getting in behind the dash anywhere.
Other thing to check is the immobiliser/fuel shut off solenoid. The wiring runs up just in front of the radiator and there is a multipin plug on the front slam panel, could be getting water in there or a dodgy connection
