i have just opened my plug ,due to seeing a burnt mark on the outside.why i opened it i discovered that the live wire was burnt,and was very black.this plug is attached to the washing machine.i did replace the one that came with the machine as it was fixed and needed to go behind a unit.i am certain that i wire it correctly and was wonering if you could tell me what went wrong.

sounds like you had a bad connection, it overheated and burnt out
