Laying a patio - Damp Proof Course level

Having a patio laid and the guy doing it has pulled up the concrete that was there and laid type 1 hardcore down to the level it was. Now he's laid the patio and it's blocking an air vent that is in flowing into the house.

The dam proof course is at the top of the vent, therefore the patio is level with the DPC.

1) Is it ok for the vent to be covered, or a gap left there or should it be completely free meaning the patio needs to be lowered?

2) Is it ok for the patio to be level with the DPC or should it be lower? Is there any regs for this?

You should really be about two course of brick below the damp proof course. If its close to that and you get a lot of rain it can bridge the damp course and give you damp problems.

As mentioned it should be below the dpc, if he hasn't started laying yet then get that sorted. The course of slabs nearest the house should also preferably slope away from the wall.

Its not a Building regs issue but when you come to sell your house a suryevor will definately pick up on it.
