can some one help? we have the about 7 years old Gas-fired combi Boiler Powermax 155. it works okay, but It is always making humming noise when it's switched on,even though we don't use any hot water and cetral heating. The noise is gone when the electric is switched off.

Could be one of the pumps. Could be fan. Do a search on the powermax with the blue search function near the top of the page and you will find lots of known issues. Some dangerous.

Not a boiler to do diy experiments on if half of what I heard is true.

when was it last serviced actually its important to get all gas appliances checked anually.use baxi/potterton fixed price repair service.

And ensure the burner gaskets are replaced , they crumble if they are the old style and do not seal up again without the new style gasket. They make loads of humming........ pumps, fan, gas valve, boards now and again even loose bits of casing.
