Bathroom extraction: no outlet

We have a very old, damp bathroom which we want to fit an extraction fan in.

The walls are very thick and this seems to be quite impractical.
Because the ceiling is partially sloping down towards the eaves, I would need to strip plaster and walling off to just see if an outlet is possible in the eaves.
And taking a vent up to the tiles seems like just as much cost and work involved.

I have spoken to a neighbour who has said that the builder who put his bathroom in had put ventilation extraction through some sort of waste water pipe. I haven't had a look at his myself, but suspect that he has had the wool pulled over his eyes. But if this is a recognised method, it sounds like it would suit us just right.

I hope you can help.

Many thanks

what your neighbour probably means is the builder has used a piece of 100mm waste pipe as a conduit for air extraction as opposed to using an actual waste pipe which is in use. well thats what i would surmise anyway

errm wots this doing in general discussion

110mm soil pipe is ideal as a conduit/ducting/sleeving when the vent needs to pass through a wall or through a roof.

Flexi-hose can also be used as a link between the fan and the terminal.
