Hi,

I want to run a cable down from the ceiling, through a partition wall to a new light switch. Is there a tool that I can use to drill through the noggins, without opening up the plasterboard? I.e. something I can insert through a hole the size of a single backbox?

Would love to avoid opening the wall up, but it's looking inevitable....

Can you access the top of the wall from the loft or floor void above?

It would be easier to drill down from above, rather than up from the switch position.

yes there is but we're not allowed to tell you about it.. the union said so.. ;)

if you buy flat bits that are "fast hitch" they have the same shape as interchangeable screw bits..
you can then use extensions to reach the noggin..
and a right angle driver to drive it through the hole..

as it's a switch, the noggin should be under it.. should be one about mid height up the wall..

Thanks, that's really useful.

Have you ever tried connecting several extenders together?

Potentially I might need to drill a noggin one metre up from the switch itself, which would be three extenders end-to-end. But perhaps that's just a silly idea....
