Hi all,. my vauxhall combo 1997 has always struggled to start from cold in the mornings but once it fires its fine. With the mornings getting colder trying to start it this morning has drained the battery, is this the glow plugs failing, if so where do i find them to remove

Don't know what particular engine the Vauxhall uses but if its a conventional IDI you will find the glowplugs on the side of the cylinder head just below the injectors. They simply unscrew - if you can get at them.

You can test them by removing the wire from the terminal at the top and connecting a multimeter on the ohms range between the terminal and earth, it should read less than one ohm, if they are completely u/s it will read nothing at all.

or connect them to the car battery and they should glow red hot.

in the mean time, a small squirt of easy start in the inlet pipe will see it fire up 1st time.

A little tip for when you do it is to get the engine warm before you try and take them out as they do tend to be a bugger to get out!
