We had a problem with our pump as it was screeching. we fixed this as it was blocked above the pump (brown stuff came out). Now the F&E tank when the pump is turned up to 2 (as previously set) hot water comes out of the overflow. when it is set on 1 no problems seem to be occuring. why has this just started to happen when it worked quite all right before on 2.

Probably because blockage was causing resistance to the water travelling up the vent pipe when it was set on no 2.

If your system is circulating ok on setting 1 leave it as it is.

another problem could be the location of the vent in relation to the pump ie you have the pump, with the direction arrow is the vent pipe above or below it.

Um, beginning to wonder why we bother sometimes when the originator doesn't even respond after several days........
