Hi all,

Just purchased new cooker hood and looking for a little assistance in wiring it up, or what to do with an additional earth wire. The new hood has a cable coming out with just live and neutral wires.

The leads from the original appliance fused switch have live, neutral and earth.

Ideally would have liked to join both using a one piece connecter, is it ok just to connect up the earth wire from the switch to the connector without it connecting to anything other than the terminal in connector. Obviously connecting the other two.

Any other suggestions.

Sorry very stupid question

Yes, a small junction box will be fine.

Connect line to line, neutral to neutral and the cpc (earth) in a spare terminal.

Make sure the excess cable is kept well away from the fan in the hood. As it is not earthed if the cable gets chewed by the fan the casing can become live and is very dangerous. It's not your fault - the hood is supplied as 'double insulated' and is not required to be earthed.
