Hi, I intend to replace my whole bathroom suite, however at the moment the soil pipe extends quite far in to the room, and I would like to install a close coupled system, is it possible to cut soil pipes back and add new couplings? (it is an old pipe, not made of plastic)

cheers, Matt

Assuming it's cast Iron a 9" angle grinder is ok. YOu cut a slot veetically or perp to the pipe anyway, then make cuts in the front because it won't go through in one go. A cut longditudinally at each end of the cut frees the section and lets you cut deeper. Itakes about three cycles.
You can also do it with a 4 1/2 , just. I'm told a reciprocating saw works.

The iron dust IS a problem with an angle grinder - it gets everywhere. If you place a very soggy old towel in the path of the dust stream, it absorbs a lot.
