I have a concord wrs central heating boiler it has started to leak a small ammount of water when it is turned off it is from the actual part of the boiler which the gas heats, when you take the cover off you can see where the water is coming from where it is joined in the middle one leak is from underneath on the right hand side from the join and the other is on the left hand side on the out side from the join, can I separate the actual boiler and reseal it my self as I am quite good at diy, hope some one understands what I have stated and can come up with a solution, many thanks

I imagine Ideal would advise against it. I wouldn't fancy taking the job on - possibilities for leaks everywhere else are too risky.
Start saving up I think

If it is one of the very latest models it will still be knocking on the door of 25 years old, with a leaking heat exchanger its time to bite the bullet and replace it...it's a total false economy to replace a heat exchanger on something this old.

It is or rather was possible to solve these leaks by taking the front cast section off and replacing the large "o" rings which were an Ideal GC part, whether you can still get these rings due to age of boiler is another thing, not a DIY job and with labour costs etc probably makes more sense to replace.

many thanks to all those people who gave me advice regarding if it was possible to repair said concord heating boiler, thanks again. jake :D

Jake,

I have a Concord WRS55 and changed the O rings about two years ago. It wasn't particularly difficult to do and to date everything is working ok. The cost of the O rings was around 20 pounds so it was money well spent. All I had to do was get the heat exhanger seperated from the boiler by undoing four nuts and pulling it off. I have a wall mounted boiler so I set up a wooden brace just to support the weight while I did the work.

This message is addressed to Tonymasters. You know when you fixed your Concord WRS55 boiler, did you get the O rings from your local plumbing shop or did you have to order them in specially. Also, do you know where I can order a replacement cover/casing for the boiler. I have a similar problem with my Concorde boiler which sprung a leak whilst I was away on an extended holiday and it has rusted right through the cover!

It would be a totally pointless excercise - replace the boiler.

if it has rusted through the case thens its had it. i would be very surprised if that was still available.
