just had a worcester 28cdi installed. the boiler is downstairs, and the flow at the downstairs hot tap is ok. the problem is the upstairs hot taps, (run of about 3 foot from boiler), both the bath and basin tap are at a trickle. i have had a look under the bath, and it seems the out from the bolier, (at 15mm), goes into a 22mm under the floor.. could this be the cause of the problem? or am i expecting to much from the combi?

thanks

tony

Before you go looking for a blockd pipe you need to check the flow rate at your taps properly, a sink tap with an insert will spray water and look a lot faster than a larger unrestricted bath tap, its a common mistake to think the flow is a lot less, measure useing a flow cup (about £10) or time how long to fill a jug etc ,the 28cdi should be 10lt per min at max flow

Thanks for the reply.. :)

Guess looks can be decpetive, the downstairs tap is running at 7.5l per min.. The bathroom sink is at 8.5l and the bath is also 8.5l a minute, (with the dial on the boiler set between II and III). Have spoken to our local water authority, and they are sending a guy out to check the mains pressure tomorrow.

it is probably due to the pipes to the bath a basin have been installed in 22mm pipe which will increase flow rate but reduced pressure where as the hot water tap in the kitch is probably 15mm

was this a conversion on a new install?

22mm or 15mm wont make a diff to the flow rate, its allready resticted at the boiler, you could run it through a drain pipe it would'nt come out faster than the 10 lt flow restricter

quite agree but it will reduce pressure

Thanks for the replies guy's.. :)

its a conversion... water board have been and gone, they reckon the cold flow into the house is around 14l a min.. it still seems "wrong".. when you first open either hot tap upstairs, you get a gush, which then goes back to what seems like a slow trickle... guess its a trade off from the conventional boiler we had that gave good service water wise, but was lousy at heating the house in the winter...

COuld be some air trapped in a dead leg somewhere, behaving like a spring which compresses when the tap is off.
