the stop cock seems to be working fine, yet water continues to leak from the overflow from the main water tank, any ideas!

Water is obviously getting into the tank then. icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Try bending the arm so that it shuts the water off 1 inch below overflow.
If no joy, change the washer in the valve. icon_biggrin.gif

There could be a split in your heating coil, the boiler could be boiling over, there could be a thermostatic shower passing causing your tank to back fill. This is only for Hot water and heating header tanks.

Why not change the cylinder instead icon_question.gif icon_eek.gif

Quoted at £760 for new cylinder so for the extra it seems to make sense for a combi?

Quote for new cylinder for ant81

This seems a little expensive for a domestic indirect vented cylinder to be changed I would get a few more quotes. Were abouts do you live as you might be aware the cost of trades men varies through out the UK.
