I have a bathroom with wooden floorboards that would need covering with plywood. I am in a dilema, as beneath the floorboards are where the all the water & gas pipes run for the house and also the electric for the sockets & shower. Beneath that room is a suspended ceiling. If I tile I would have no access to the pipes & cables should I tile stopping access to pipes ETC or carpet ?

Ask yourself the same question but put a different slant on it. When re-wiring your house would you plaster over the cables or leave them open on the bare brick wall just in case a fault develops. Same question but apply it to water pipes. Would you run them between the cavities in your walls and then leave them exposed just in case a fault develops?

Ultimately it's down to you but what are the probabilities of a fault developing if you tile the floor. Obviously carpet is easier to take up but not very hygenic or practical.
